In case you haven't heard, marketing greatness has been achieved. The geniuses at Wieden + Kennedy took a tired, old brand (Old Spice), transformed it's image (with the help of hottie Isaiah Mustafa), and then slathered the social media world with it in a refreshing, unexpected way. I was blown out of the water by the rapid-fire YouTube video responses they made - I would post my favorites here but, wow, there are just too many (although this one directed at Isaiah's daughter is high on my list). Here instead is a funny video from W+K featuring the two brilliant guys behind the campaign:
I'm interested in seeing what Old Spice will do next, how the interwebz will mash and hash all of this footage, and where viral marketing will venture to next. Sadly, this portion of Old Spice's campaign is over. Although, if it went on any longer, there surely would eventually be a backlash. Instead they entertained us, engaged us, and gave us that warm, fuzzy feeling of belongingness we get when we share something good together. More importantly, W+K transformed a brand associated with Dad and clipper ships into something today's youth would actually want to buy for themselves.
Kudos, W+K. You're on a horse.
(Silverfish hand catch!)
UPDATE: There are a slew of Old Spice commercial parodies out there (and I'm sure more are to come), but this one takes the cake:
